After months of planning and preparations, the day finally arrived for the 2015 Huddersfield Criterium. As headline sponsors, we not only assisted in the promotion, organisation and on-the-day management of the event, but were instrumental in generating further sponsorship and awareness of this now coveted annual event.
On Wednesday 8th July, as the rain began to slow and the sun began to shine, the roads of Huddersfield Town Centre were closed, track laid, food and beverage vans pitched in St Georges Square and spectators arrived in their 100’s to watch the much anticipated fast and furious cycling festival.
Our clients, Chadwick Lawrence Solicitors opened the doors to its Huddersfield office to host the VIP area for the event, perfectly located on the start and finish line; accommodating 100+ local businessmen and women, with the Town Mayor, Cllr Paul Kane and former Tour de France stage winner, Brian Robinson in attendance. Guests were able to network and enjoy the event in a relaxed atmosphere in the Chadwick Lawrence boardroom, whilst being treated to refreshments supplied by the firm.
The evening’s action showcased some of Britain’s most talented amateur and professional riders including Pete Williams of the OnePro Cycling team and Team GB’s Gabriel Cullaigh going head to head in a tense finale of the evening’s main event, the Elite race. The event was extremely well attended with over 700 spectators lining the streets and enjoying the cycling, generating a carnival atmosphere.
As well as this, agency partner and charity associates of the Criterium, The Huddersfield Town Foundation attended the event to build awareness and raised over £300 for the charity through collections and sales of the event programme.
Andrew Hobson, Managing Director was delighted to be part of this hugely successful event, not only for the organisers and businesses that supported the Criterium but for the impact occasions such as these have on the town as a whole.
Andrew commented, “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Martyn Bolt and Dave Sowerby on bringing this event to life. The hard work and dedication of the sponsors, organisers, volunteers and team Fantastic, who worked tirelessly to bring the Huddersfield Criterium 2015 to life, is what made the event such a triumph and we should be extremely proud of our achievements. We are already planning for next year, which promises to be bigger and better.”
