Our Head of Creative, Paul Whitcroft and Operations Director, Barry Holder took on the incredible 26 mile and 385 yard challenge of the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 26th April.  The pair joined thousands of runners who were taking part in order to raise money for their chosen charities. The race is the third largest running event in the UK and the duo took the challenge by storm, running through the streets of London to pass the finish line at The Mall.

Pauls motivation to enter the marathon was to challenge himself after recently working towards hitting his personal goal of getting fit through exercise and inevitably leading a healthier lifestyle. Paul not only ran to raise money for the NSPCC but also for his wife and children, so they can have a fit and healthy husband and dad. His target was to raise £2,000, however with a number of extremely generous donations from a number of our clients he managed to raise a grand total of £2,300 for the charity.

During Pauls extreme training sessions, he was approached by the NSPCC to take part in a video promoting the marathon and the cause. Please take five minutes to watch the video here.

As part of this Paul was lucky enough to have his family in the Grandstand at the finish line, enabling them to support Paul with a well-deserved cheer. Immediately after the marathon Paul said the words never again; however after a couple of days rest, he is now considering entering the ballot for a free place in the 2016 marathon.

Twenty years ago, Barry Holder ran the London Marathon at the young age of 18; this year he returned attempting to beat his previous time. Barry entered to prove to himself that even if youre pushing 40 with two young children, you can still achieve your goals. His training for the marathon started back in August last year and up until race day he logged an astounding 782 miles over the 9 months! Two pairs of trainers and several pairs of socks down, Barry crossed the finish line at a time of 03:39:17! 7 minutes faster than his younger-self.

Barrys motivation to run the marathon was to raise money to support the CLIC Sargent charity, this charity has a place in Barrys heart as it helped a good friends daughter, who had a brain tumour and is still undergoing Chemotherapy.  Through the marathon he has managed to raise a grand total of £1,436.32 for this wonderful charity, however once all pledges are in he is expecting to reach the £1,800 mark.

Overall, the pair raised an astonishing, combined total of £3,736.32 for their chosen charities that together benefit a number of children across the country! Both Paul and Barry would recommend entering the Virgin Money London Marathon to anyone who wants to test themselves as this is the perfect event to do so.

Well done to the both of you, from all at Fantastic.
